Healy Blasts Another Century to Power Australia into World Cup Final Four

The Australian skipper has delivered superb consecutive hundreds to steer her team into the last four of the World Cup, motivating them to a commanding 10-wicket win over Bangladesh.

Healy finished unbeaten on 113 runs, arriving just four days after her similarly brilliant 142-run knock that defeated the Indian team at the identical Vizag venue. This time, she combined in an unbroken 200-run first-wicket stand with Phoebe Litchfield (84no) to race to their goal of 199 runs in just 24.5 deliveries.

โ€œI thought I was a little bit poor behind the stumps, and perhaps a little bit as captain as well tonight, but weโ€™ll take the win and progress,โ€ Healy remarked.

Ironically, the supreme expertise of the day's chase as the pair put on 202 runs came after possibly Australiaโ€™s poorest performance in the fielding department under Healyโ€™s leadership, with the skipper scolding herself in particular for spilling two of the half-dozen chances that were missed.

โ€œI was a little bit disappointed with my wicketkeeping, and I needed to compensate with the bat, and fortunately got the job done,โ€ she added.

From the time data was initially taken on fielding performance statistics in the year 2013, the six dropped opportunities represented the team's poorest fielding display at a Womenโ€™s World Cup.

โ€œMaybe itโ€™s just that time of the competition โ€“ weโ€™ve been here a while, and itโ€™s something weโ€™ll reflect on,โ€ Healy said.

This allowed Bangladesh to eke out 198 for 9 after they had opted to bat, their highest score in an One-Day International against the Aussies, with a key batter scoring the first fifty ever for the Asian side against the reigning champions.

But the spinner's spellbinding unbroken ten-over bowling performance, in which she claimed 2-18 with four maidens, was crucial to ensuring Australiaโ€™s target wasnโ€™t too challenging.

Healy Pleased with Win that Confirms Knockout Spot

The Australian skipper was delighted to discover that the victory, which places her unbeaten side at the top of the standings on nine points after four wins and a wash-out, guarantees them a berth in the semi-finals. โ€œThat's great news,โ€ she exclaimed.

The experienced captain sped to her century off just 73 deliveries, the fastest hundred of the World Cup, and finished with 20 fours off the 77 deliveries she faced as she pulled away from Litchfield later in the innings after they had gone almost boundary-for-boundary towards their fifties.

The Opener Impresses with Maiden Tournament Fifty

Left-hander Litchfield hit 12 fours and a six, reaching to her first tournament fifty off 46 deliveries shortly after Healy got there off 43 balls. They went on to achieve the third-highest stand by any Australian duo at a Womenโ€™s World Cup.

Earlier, during the sluggish fielding effort, Healy spilled the simplest of chances off a teammate and also was unable to hold on to a tough lofted one off another bowler. Annoyingly, she also take a clean catch off Brown but didnโ€™t have it reviewed when the umpire turned down their shout.

The reinstated Darcie Brown sent down the fastest deliveries at the tournament so far but was nonetheless the team's most expensive bowler, conceding 0-52 off her nine overs.

Spin Attack Excel as Alana King Stars

Instead, the slow bowlers thrived, spearheaded by Alana King, whose performance could have been more successful if a fielder hadnโ€™t missed one in the slip cordon.

Fellow spinners Georgia Wareham (two for 22 off seven) and Ash Gardner (two for 48 off nine overs) both contributed, while Annabel Sutherland strengthened her standing as the competition's leading wicket-taker with her 2-41, taking her tally to thirteen.

A batter's 44 runs and another's not out 66 runs off 80 balls took the team to their highest-ever score against the Aussies, but the target was made to look easy meat by a team who had chased down 330 runs against the Indian side four days earlier.

โ€œItโ€™s always nice when youโ€™ve got the โ€˜Qโ€™ next to your name in a World Cup,โ€ remarked star performer Alana King. โ€œCertainly it won't end here. We look forward to returning to the next venue to face the English team and the Proteas.โ€
